Welcome to the Fort McMurray real estate guide
2016 was an unbelievably tough year for a lot of people. The forest fire that tore through our city displaced so many and caused an immense amount of damage. But Fort McMurray is strong and this is what we love so much about the community. In the wake of such devastation, we are given the opportunity to pull together as one. As a community, the people of Fort McMurray are one big family and we are all incredibly proud to call this city home.
Moving on, a massive rebuild is taking place, which has been attracting a lot of investment and spurring the local economy once again. With the rebuild, the whole landscape of Fort McMurray is set to change. The areas of Beacon Hill, Abasand and Waterways - once the oldest areas of the city - will now become the newest. Many areas now have brand new homes on large lots, providing a new lease on life for the city and its residents.
Despite previously experiencing a downturn in the economy, commercial projects—like those at Eagle Ridge and the area across from East Village—are providing steady sources of income helping build residential units, large box stores, and a movie theater. New schools have opened in the recent past and Fort McMurray already has one of the most impressive recreation centres in Canada, Macdonald Island. Add this to a couple of golf courses, an active airport, and a downtown redevelopment plan and you can clearly see the ambition of this dynamic city.
Ambitious cities attract ambitious people. Fort McMurray is no exception.
In fact, Fort McMurray is not merely a place to work but it is a city of fantastic opportunity. Everyone comes with a five-year plan that turns into a 20-year stay. If you want to work, the rewards are substantial. However, people that come to a city strictly to work are never going to call it home. Everyone in Fort McMurray is from somewhere else and that is exactly what makes them approachable. It's easier to make friends in Fort McMurray than in many other places in the world. The community is generous, consistently smashing records in fundraising for local charities.
Come to Fort McMurray for the work. Stay for the community.
